How I’ve Found A Healthier Approach To Using & Viewing Social Media

There’s so much talk going around about the impact social media can have on our mental health & overall well being.

Is it healthy?

Is it helpful?

Is it destructive?

Does it cause delusion?

Does it instill a false sense of self-esteem and power?

Is it taking people away from living their real lives?

What triggered this post was someone recently made an assumption about my relationship with social media & it really got me thinking. Social media is a huge part of my business, anyone in the online coaching or advising fields knows that having a solid social media base is imperative in attracting the people you are meant to help. Often when someone is only familiar with old school business models & marketing strategies they may not understand the importance of staying active and engaged on social media when creating & maintaining an online business.

So with all that being said, here’s my personal opinion.

Like anything in life it’s all about perception & intention.

Social Media can be a beautiful place to authentically share, encourage, promote, make like minded connections, collaborate and empower.

My personal feed is filled with positivity & inspiration & I truly value the awareness, perspective, education & like-minded connections it has given me.

On the other side Social Media can be seen as a place of negativity, bullying, grandiosity & insecurity. Because of this I feel its so important to be super discerning about who you are following and interacting with on these platforms.

I do see where it could be dangerous for children or teens still figuring out who they are & this is where individual discernment comes in for us parents.

This is a new era. Whether we like it or not social media is a huge part of this world, online business and will likely be an even bigger part of our children’s world. We can perceive & use it for the beautiful gift it is or we can vilify it, shutting ourselves off to all the amazing potential it holds.

I believe that the true power of social media lies in authentic expression, expanding awareness and healthy empowerment. Social media is a very powerful TOOL that if used in the proper way can elevate, encourage, empower and connect so many like-minded beautiful people around the world. It is simply another outlet and extension to share and express ourselves. If we have a healthy balance of it in our already balanced and well rounded lives I see it as a beautiful thing & it’s up to each individual to determine where that healthy balance lies for themselves. I also plan to use some major discernment if & when I allow my children to view and share on these platforms.

How you choose to see, perceive and experience these platforms is up to you and the beautiful part is you can unfollow or block anyone at anytime if you don’t like what they are saying or sharing… We always have a choice & anyone so focused or heated by what others are doing on social media is likely not focused on their own individual growth, evolution & expansion. I honestly choose to respectfully ignore those people. As with anything in my life I try to have an awareness of all sides of the spectrum and make my own individual discernment from there.

So what is your take on social media? Yay? Nay? Indifferent?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Wishing you all the deep, beautiful balance & discernment to discover what works best for you on social media platforms!
